FILM LEXICON (FILMLEKSIKON)

Kill Bill: Volume 1. Photo: Danish Film Institute
The Film Lexicon is the Danish Film Institute’s online reference on film language and genres, offering more than 100 entries on cinematic devices and dramaturgy – illustrated with screenshots and film and sound clips from films on Filmcentralen.

The Film Lexicon is aimed at Danish students in primary and secondary schools, as well as teachers and anyone else interested in film. The goal of the Film Lexicon is to provide a brief and simple explanation of film concepts. The encyclopaedia is widely used for film analysis.

A shared language and critical awareness

To support teachers and students, all teaching materials on Filmcentralen link directly to the guide. In the genre chapter, you will find 40 entries on classic film genres and genre characteristics.

With Film Lexicon, the Danish Film Institute strives to offer greater insight into the world of film. We want to provide the oldest primary school and high-school students with a shared language on film analysis, and add to critical awareness of visual media in general.
