Filmcentralen: A learning platform

Filmcentralen, the Danish Film Institute’s streaming service and learning platform, features a large collection of films and learning resources for students and teachers in primary and secondary schools. The service is available on all media platforms, including tablets and smartphones, in the classroom and from home.

The Filmcentralen streaming service features more than 2,000 films.  Many of the films come with learning materials of various kinds and lengths. Altogether, Filmcentralen features more than 600 different sets of teaching materials. Filmcentralen also includes a Film Lexicon providing definitions of key film terms – in words and film clips.

Filmcentralen is also where to access the Danish Film Institute’s other educational offerings. These include the national School Cinema programme (Med Skolen I Biografen), which sends 250,000 schoolchildren to the cinema every year. Another feature is FILM-X, the Danish Film Institute’s interactive film studio, where children and teens can make their own films. Finally, there is an overview of film learning-activities, resources and research findings, in Denmark and around the world.

Since Filmcentralen was launched in 2013, the use of films and learning resources has steadily grown. It has 1.2 million streams and 1.3 million unique users annually. Read more about facts and figures.
