The idea behind the programme is that shared cinema experiences can inspire productive conversation between children and adults about exciting subjects, storytelling and aesthetics. Cultural diversity is essential and all of the films have different styles, expressions and narratives. The running times and content of the films closely match the children's age.
The programme holds screenings all year round at the Cinematheque in Copenhagen. In partnership with the Association of Danish Film Clubs for Children and Youth (DaBUF), the programme’s films are also screened to kindergarteners and families in cinemas and libraries across the country.
When the children return to kindergarten, they can watch the films again on the preschool app Børnebiffen i dagtilbud, a learning app suggesting creative tools and activities based on hundreds of short films.
If you would like to know more about using film education in preschool, we recommend that you visit the website Film Education: A User’s Guide introducing educational arguments and challenges, the guide presents concrete ways of watching, talking and making films with preschoolers.
