‘The Girl with the Needle’ nominated for European Film Awards.

NOMINATIONS. The Danish film ‘The Girl with the Needle’ by Magnus von Horn has received three European Film Award nominations in the categories ‘Best actress’ and ‘Best Screenwriter’.

‘The Girl with the Needle’ celebrated its world premiere in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where the film received excellent reviews from the international press. Since the premiere, the Danish film has had an impressive festival year, and it continues with three European Film Awards nominations in the categories ‘Best actress’ and ‘Best screenwriter’.

Vic Carmen Sonne and Trine Dyrholm are each nominated in the category ‘Best actress’, while Magnus Von Horn and Line Langebek are nominated for ‘Best screenwriter’.

The director co-wrote the screenplay for 'The Girl with the Needle' with Line Langebek. Which is based on the true story of Dagmar Overbye, who from 1913 to 1920 killed numerous infants born out of wedlock.

In the category for ‘Best screenwriter’ the nominees are:

  • Jacques Audiard, 'Emilia Pérez'
  • Magnus von Horn og Line Langebek, 'The Girl with the Needle'
  • Pedro Almodóvar, 'The Room Next Door'
  • Mohammad Rasoulof, 'The Seed of the Sacred Fig'
  • Caralie Fargeat, 'The Substance'

Trine Dyrholm has previously been nominated in the ‘Best actress’ category for Thomas Vinterbergs ‘The Commune’ and May el-Touhky’s ‘Queen of Hearts’, while this is Vic Carmen Sonne’s first EFA-nomination.

Malene Blenkov and Mariusz Włodarski produced the film for Nordisk Film Creative Alliance in co-production with Lava Films with support from The Danish Film Institute, The Swedish Film Institute, The Polish Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Eurimages, among others. Nordisk Film Distribution distributes the film and The Match Factory holds world sales rights.

The winners will be announced at the 37th European Film Award show on 7 December 2024.
