Frelle Petersen achieved his international breakthrough in 2019 with ‘Uncle’, winning the main ‘Grand Prix’ award at the Tokyo International Film Festival, his last film ‘Forever’ was selected for Competition at San Sebastian International Film Festival in 2022, and Frelle Petersens new film ‘Home Sweet Home’ will celebrate its World premiere in Berlin.
‘Home Sweet Home’ tells the story of 32-year-old divorced Sofie, who seeks a fresh start by becoming a home care worker in a small rural community in Southern Jutland. She lives with her 10-year-old daughter Clara. Sofie is quick to build relationships – both with the elderly citizens she cares for and her colleagues – and she discovers the joy of making a difference. But soon, she also realizes the strain faced by employees in the home care system. When Sofie receives an unjustified complaint from a relative of an elderly client, it marks the beginning of a challenging time where her ability to care for both the elderly and her daughter is put to the ultimate test.
The lead role of Sofie is played by Jette Søndergaard, who also starred in the lead roles in Frelle Petersen’s previous films, ‘Uncle’ (2019) and Forever (2022).
The script for the film was developed through extensive research by director Frelle Petersen, who spent a period working as a municipal home care worker to experience first-hand what it’s like to travel from house to house to care for elderly citizens.
‘Home Sweet Home’ is produced by Jonas Bagger for Zentropa with support from the Danish Film Institute. The film has also received backing from the West Danish Film Fund, TV 2 Denmark, and the European Union. World Sales is handled by TrustNordisk.
The 75th Berlin International Film Festival will take place from February 13 to 23, 2025.
