AWARDS. ‘Another Round’ by Thomas Vinterberg took home four out of four possible accolades at the European Film Awards, including for European Film. The prize ceremony was held as a virtual event on Saturday evening in Berlin.

The European Film Awards was hosted as a virtual awards ceremony in Berlin on 12 December, and 'Another Round' by Thomas Vinterberg was one of the big winners of the night.

'Another Round' was nominated in four major categories and took home the awards in all four – for European Director (Thomas Vinterberg), European Actor (Mads Mikkelsen), European Screenwriter (Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm) and the top award for European Film (Vinterberg and Zentropa producers Kasper Dissing and Sisse Graum Jørgensen).

The drama about four weary high school teachers experimenting with the liberating effects of alcohol was also revealed as one of three nominees for the Lux European Audience Film Award, with the winner to be announced on 28 April during a ceremony in the European Parliament.

Among the recipients of the Excellence Awards for technical functions, announced on 9 December, is Kristian Selin Eidnes Andersen for his sound design on the French-Danish co-production 'Little Girl'.

Another Round from Cannes label to Oscar entry

'Another Round' received the prestigious Cannes label in June and screened at film festivals in Toronto, San Sebastián and London. Awards include the French Art House Cinema Prize (Prix des Cinémas Art et Essai), handed out in collaboration with the Cannes Festival, the Silver Shell for Best Actor to Mikkelsen and co-players Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang and Lars Ranthe, and the main prize at the London Film Festival.

Most recently, the film was selected as Denmark's entry for next year's Academy Awards, after selling more than 800,000 tickets in the Danish cinemas. 'Another Round' is produced by Sisse Graum and Kasper Dissing for Zentropa and is set for distribution in most international markets. The film has already performed well in France and England. In the US, it was released theatrically on 4 December, with a VOD release following on 18 December.
