Tobias Lindholm is about to conclude the filming in Denmark and Turkey of his third feature film.
A drama deeply rooted in reality, "A War" is about Danish company commander Claus Michael Pedersen and his men who are stationed in Helmand, Afghanistan. Meanwhile, in Denmark, everyday life is a struggle for Claus' wife Maria, with a husband at war and three children missing their father. During a routine mission, the soldiers are caught in heavy Taliban crossfire. To save his men, Claus makes a decision which ultimately sees him return to Denmark accused of a war crime.
Lindholm continues his collaboration with Pilou Asbæk and Søren Malling who both starred in his last film, the acclaimed "A Hijacking" (2012). Pilou Asbæk also took the lead in Lindholm's remarkable, grittily realistic debut feature "R" (2010, directed with Michael Noer).
Also on the cast of "The War" are Tuva Novotny and Charlotte Munck. The soldiers are played by actual soldiers who have been stationed in Afghanistan and are supported by actors Dar Salim and Dulfi Al-Jaburi.
Lindholm wrote the script and has assembled his usual team behind the camera consisting of cinematographer Magnus Jønck, editor Adam Nielsen and sound designer Morten Green.
As a scriptwriter, Lindholm is behind renowned titles such as the BAFTA-winning television series "Borgen" and Thomas Vinterberg's "Submarino" and Oscar nominee "The Hunt."
"A War" is produced by René Ezra and Tomas Radoor for Nordisk Film with support from the Danish Film Institute. Studiocanal is handling international sales. The film is set for a domestic release in autumn 2015.
