"A Hijacking" by Tobias Lindholm has been sold to North American distribution, announces TrustNordisk. Magnolia Pictures has acquired the rights and is planning a theatrical release for the film in the second quarter of 2013.
Since its international premiere at Venice Film Festival, "A Hijacking" has been very well-received by audiences, press and festival juries worldwide. Most recently, the film received the Best Feature Film Award and the FIPRESCI award at Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
Previously announced deals include France (Ad Vitam), UK (Arrow Films), Benelux (A-Film), Turkey/Cyprus (Calinos Entertainment) and Korea (Atnine Films).
"A Hijacking" is produced by Tomas Radoor and René Ezra for Nordisk Film with support from the Danish Film Institute.
A Hijacking
The cargo ship MV Rozen is heading for harbour when it is hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. Amongst the men on board are the ship's cook Mikkel and the engineer Jan who, along with the rest of the seamen, are taken hostage in a cynical game of life and death. With the demand for a ransom of millions of dollars a psychological drama unfolds between the CEO of the shipping company and the Somali pirates.
