Golden Globe nomination to Susanne Bier

NOMINATION. "In a Better World" picked up a Golden Globe nomination at HFPA's live announcement Tuesday, 14 December.

Susanne Bier's drama "In a Better World" is among the five films nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Foreign Language category.

The nomination, announced 14 December by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, adds to an already impressive list of accolades. "In a Better World" is singled out as Denmark's Oscar contender for a Best Foreign Language film nomination and has swept up trophies in Rome and Sevilla.

Launched internationally in Toronto and sold to more than 30 countries, Bier's drama has proven a solid national boxoffice hit and will soon enjoy its US launch at Sundance in January, invited to participate in the Spotlight section.

"In a Better World" is produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen for Zentropa supported by the Danish Film Institute. US distribution rights are handled by Sony Pictures Classics who are planning for its theatrical release in March. TrustNordisk is handling international sales.

First Danish film to take home the prestigious Golden Globe Award was Carl Theodor Dreyer's "The Word" in 1956, and Bille August's "Pelle the Conqueror" followed suit in 1988. Also nominated over the years were Gabriel Axel's "Babette's Feast", Thomas Vinterberg's "Festen"/"The Celebration" and Jan Troell's "Everlasting Moments".

The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be presented 16 January in Beverly Hills.
