He refined what came to be "the Lubitsch touch" - elegant, oblique sexual references in the face of the contemporary conservative moral code. Saturday and Sunday we offer two gems from the hand of the German-American.
Lubitsch's first in Technicolor, "Heaven Can Wait" is the perfect mix of elegance, romance, wit and bitter sweetness. On the day of his death Henry's soul arrives at the forecourt of Hell. In flashbacks we experience the milestones of Henry's time on earth and the tempestuous relationship with the love of his life. Henry has lived to the fullest. Maybe he's not qualified to go to hell. It is on Saturday at 16:30.
"To Be or Not to Be" is an electric war comedy. It is packed with jolly suspense, rapid-fire jokes and sweet eroticism. It is on Sunday at 14:00.
