Pernille Fischer Christensen's drama "Someone You Love" won the Audience Award for Best International Feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival closing on 19 June. The festival marked the film's North American premiere. Back in 2010, Fischer Christensen took home the festival's top prize for "A Family".
Tackling issues of family ties as in her previous film from 2010, "Someone You Love" centres on Thomas Jacob, a world famous singer-songwriter who has burnt all his bridges. After years in Los Angeles, Thomas returns to his native Denmark to record a new album. There, his estranged daughter turns up with his 11-year-old grandson. Much against his will, Thomas is forced to take care of the boy.
Mikael Persbrandt is Thomas Jacob and Trine Dyrholm his producer while the daughter is played by Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, known for her role as crusading reporter in the drama series "Borgen". Earlier this month, Hjort Sørensen received a Best Actress award at the Festroia International Film Festival in Setúbal, Portugal, where "Someone You Love" also won an award presented by the international organisation of art cinemas CICAE.
"Someone You Love" had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.

"Thomas Jacob is a big mishmash of everything I think is exciting and cool. We talked about Leonard Cohen a lot, the soulfulness and spirituality of this lyrics. And Nick Cave, too, for sure. His ballads are some of the finest songs I know," director Pernille Fischer Christensen explains.

Fischer Christensen's feature debut "A Soap" (2006) had its world premiere at the Berlin film festival where it was awarded a Silver Bear - the Jury Grand Prix - and the Best Debut Film Award.
