Trier's Antichrist to Cannes

Competing for this year's Palme d'Or is Lars von Trier's "Antichrist", as announced by the Cannes Film Festival selection committee at the lineup press conference today.  Von Trier's drama "Antichrist" featuring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe is an intense drama about evil, power and love between two people. A grieving couple retreats to 'Eden', their isolated cabin in the woods, where they hope to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage. But nature takes its course, and things go from bad to worse."Antichrist" is written by Lars von Trier, director of photography is Oscar awardwinner Anthony Dod Mantle, editor Anders Refn, and Meta Louise Foldager has produced for Zentropa. Danish release is 29 May 2009.With today's announcement, von Trier will be competing for the prestigious Palme d'Or for the eighth time, the first being 25 years ago with "The Element of Crime". In all, his films have brought home six awards from Cannes over the years – last time was in 2000, where the Palme d'Or was awarded to "Dancer in the Dark" and the award for Best Actress to Björk.The film has already been sold to over 30 countries, including France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Russia, India, Brazil, and throughout Scandinavia.DFI Cannes website
