Ditte Haarløv Johnsen's graduation film "One Day" received 1 December a Special Mention at the closing ceremony for the international documentary film festival IDFA in Amsterdam. "One Day", produced by the National Film School of Denmark, participated in the IDFA Student Competition programme.
The film tells the story of a West African woman, who lives in Copenhagen and works as a prostitute. "One Day" is already embellished with two awards: a GuldDok for Best Short Documentary Film and for Best Cinematography at CPH:DOX 2007.
Also in competition at IDFA were the two Danish films "Mechanical Love", by Phie Ambo, and "Purity Beats Everything", by Jon Bang Carlsen. Both received their international premiere at the festival and screened for full theatres.
"The Monastery" a Spirit Award nomineePernille Rose Grønkjær's "The Monastery", which won IDFA's prestigious prize, the Joris Ivens Award 2006, has been nominated for a Spirit Award in the category of Best Documentary Film. Known as an alternative to the Oscars, the Spirit Awards will be presented in Los Angeles on 23 February 2008, the day before the Academy Awards.
