Susanne Bier and
Zentropa's "Brothers" received the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award at
the Sundance Film Festival 2005. Moreover, Sean McAllister and Team
Production's "The Liberace of Baghdad" won the World Cinema Documentary
Jury's Special Prize.
Susanne Bier's
critically acclaimed feature film "Brothers" is currently competing at the
Rotterdam International Film Festival. "Brothers" was a tremendous success
with Danish audiences last year. With 430.000 tickets sold it was the
third most seen Danish film in 2004.
"The Liberace of
Baghdad" follows the once notorious Iraqi pianist Samir Peter from January
2004 until the fall of 2004. Through Samir and his family the film gives
an insight into the drastically altered reality of the Iraqi people.
Danish films have
participated at the festival over a period of ten years. In 2002 as many
as five Danish films screened at Sundance. Thomas Vinterberg's "It's All
About Love", Nicolas Winding Refn's "Fear X", Susanne Bier's "Open
Hearts", Jesper Jargil's "The Purified" as well as Jørgen Leth's "New
Scenes from America". Jessica Nilsson's "Spotless" was selected in 2001,
Jacob Grønlykke's "Heart of Light" in 1999, and Ole Bornedal's
"Nightwatch" participated in 1995.
"Brothers" is produced
by Sisse Graum Jørgensen for Zentropa Productions. "The Liberace of
Baghdad" is produced by Mette Heide of Team Production for BBC & TV
2/Denmark.
