Toronto selects seven Danish films

24.08.2005
Toronto International
Film Festival (8-17 September 2005), one of the most prestigious festivals
of North America and the best entrance into the American market, have
selected seven Danish films to participate in their programme.
Contemporary
World Cinema
Nicolas Winding Refn's "Pusher"-trilogy - which
focuses on the
drug trade from a pusher's viewpoint - will be screened at
the festival's Contemporary World Cinema-series. This occasion will mark the
first screening abroad for "I'm the Angel of Death - Pusher
III", produced by Henrik Danstrup for NWR and coproduced with Nordisk Film Production. The
film will be released theatrically in Denmark 2 September.
Two other works have
been chosen for Contemporary World Cinema: "Dear Wendy" and "Adam's
Apples".
"Dear Wendy" is directed
by Thomas Vinterberg and produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen for Lucky Punch
(a Nimbus-Zentropa joint effort). "Dear Wendy" received its world premiere
at Sundance in January, and in June won Best Director Award at
Moscow.
"Adam's Æbler" is
directed by Anders Thomas Jensen and produced by Tivi Magnusson and Mie
Andreasen for Oscar-winning M & M Productions. This is Jensen's third
film and third boxoffice success; his second film, "The Green Butchers",
participated in Toronto's Discovery programme in 2003.
Documentary
series: Real to Reel
Tómas Gislason and
Nordisk Film's "Overcoming" will be screened for the first time outside
Denmark. Since its national theatrical release in June, it has achieved
the year's highest admission figures in its genre in Denmark. The film is
a close look at professional cycling, with former pro rider and Tour de
France winner Bjarne Riis in the lead.
Masters
series
Lars von Trier's second
film in his US trilogy "Manderlay", produced by Vibeke Windeløv for
Zentropa Productions, has been chosen for Toronto Masters. Like the
fiercely debated first film in the trilogy, "Dogville", starring Nicole
Kidman, "Manderlay", with Bryce Dallas Howard in the lead, was chosen
for the official selection in Cannes.
