Danish Films at Cannes

The Cannes Film Festival (16-27 May) is celebrating its 60th anniversary with "To Each His Own Cinema," an omnibus film comprising 33 three-minute short films specially produced for the occasion by well-known directors. Among them are two Danish directors, Bille August and Lars von Trier. "To Each His Own Cinema" premieres at the festival on Sunday May 20.
Also this year, large sections of the Danish film industry will be present at the festival, financing, selling and promoting Danish films. At the Film Market, Danish sales companies will be introducing international buyers to Nikolaj Arcel's "Island of Lost Souls," Lone Scherfig's "Just Like Home," and Ole Bornedal's "The Substitute," among others.
The Danish Film Institute (DFI) is busy promoting these and other Danish films at the main festivals this summer and fall in Moscow, Karlovy Vary, Venice, Toronto and San Sebastian, where new Danish films have good odds for prominent placements. So far, it has been confirmed, Erik Clausen's "Temporary Release" has been selected for the main competition at the Moscow International Film Festival in late June.
For the eighth consecutive year, European Film Promotion is organizing Producers on the Move to profile new European producer talents and boost their international careers. This year's Danish "Producer on the Move" is Sarita Christensen of the Copenhagen-Bombay production company.
Sarita Christensen worked for Zentropa from 1997 to 2006 and left to form Copenhagen-Bombay with the film director Anders Morgenthaler. Her recent production credits include Nikolaj Arcel's "Island of Lost Souls" and Anders Morgenthaler's "Princess." Christensen has a new film in production, "Echo," directed by Morgenthaler.
The DFI will be distributing the printed version of its magazine "FILM" at the festival. Additionally the PDF version will be available from 8 May.
