"The Art of Crying" wins Nordic Council Film Prize

The Danish feature film "The Art of Crying" received the Nordic Council Film Prize 2007. The award will be shared equally between director Peter Schønau Fog, scriptwriter Bo hr. Hansen, and producer Thomas Stenderup. The film is based on a novel by Erling Jepsen and produced by Final Cut Productions.
The award, announced today at a press conference at the Danish Film Institute, is a cash prize of 47,000 euro and will be presented to the recipients at a ceremony during the annual Session of Nordic Council to be held in Oslo, Wednesday 31 October.
The jury of Nordic Council wrote: "Seen through the eyes of a young boy "The Art of Crying" depicts the absurdity and even horror of family life with laconic humour. Disturbing and entertaining at the same time the film handles the difficult subject of child abuse sharply but humanely. It boldly reveals the repressive forces at work underneath the sunny surface of a small rural town".
Peter Schønau Fog's film "The Art of Crying" is chosen as the Danish entrant for the 80th Academy Award Nominations, in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. The film is also one of the 42 films running for a European Film Academy (EFA) nomination.
"The Art of Crying" has been screened at festivals worldwide and is a recipient of 15 international awards since its world premiere in Toronto in 2006.
