Martin de Thurah's short fiction "Young Man Falling" is selected for the International Critics' Week and Louise Vesth is Producer on the Move at the 61st Cannes Film Festival (14-25 May). Additionally, five new Danish films and one short film will screen at the Cannes Film Market.
Young Man Falling
Martin de Thurah and Tju-Bang Film's 43-minute "Young Man Falling" is an experimental film with a captivating visual style about 17-year-old Hue living on the fringe of reality.
De Thurah has worked as a visual-effects artist on Danish feature films and has directed a string of awardwinning music videos, his most famous being "Human" for Carpark North.
Producer on the Move
Louise Vesth of Zentropa is one of 22 young producers travelling to Cannes to participate in Producers on the Move. Initiated by the European Film Promotion, the programme aims at profiling young European producer talents.
Vesth is a producing graduate of the National Film School of Denmark. Her track record includes Christian E. Christiansen's "Life Hits" (2006) and Anders Rønnow Klarlund's "How to Get Rid of the Others" (2007) – and most recently an Academy Award nomination for Best Short Film for Christiansen's "At Night" (2007).
Danish films at the Film Market
With more than half a million tickets sold since its release in March, Ole Christian Madsen's WW2 resistance drama "Flame & Citron" has proven to be one of Danish cinema's greatest successes in recent years. The film will see its international market premiere at the Cannes Film Market. Also screening at the market is "Dancers" by Pernille Fischer Christensen who won a Silver Bear for her feature film debut "A Soap", Thomas Vinterberg's "When a Man Comes Home", Vinterberg's first film in Danish since his international breakthrough with "The Celebration", Natasha Arthy's "Fighter", recently screened at Tribeca Film Festival, and Søren Kragh-Jacobsen's "What No One Knows", screened at Panorama Special at this year's Berlinale.
Luc Perez' short film "Shaman" will be presented at the Short Film Corner, part of the Film Market. In a mix of acrylic on paper and 2D computer animation, the film tells a story about the spiritual forces in Inuit culture. The film has been selected for the animation festival in Annecy in June.
