Paprika Steen's feature
film debut "Aftermath" is selected by the European Film Academy to run for
a European Film Award nomination 2004. "Aftermath" is one of the 42 out of
400 films that have made it onto the Academy's 'selection list'.
"Aftermath" is about a young professional couple who lose their
daughter. Estranged by grief, each tries to deal with their loss in
separate ways. The London Film Festival writes that Steen's film has "an
ice cool minimalist look with a raw emotional heart. At once starkly
stylish and yet deeply moving, it is an honest, intelligent and considered
attempt to show some of the more unpleasant facets of grief".
Since its release in March, "Aftermath" has been in demand by festivals
worldwide. The film received Best Actress Award (Karen-Lise Mynster) and a
Special Mention at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in July and
won the Audience Award at the Film by the Sea Film Festival in Holland in
September. Screenings this autumn and winter include Rio de Janeiro,
Pusan, London, Sao Paulo, Canberra and Los Angeles.
The film was produced by Thomas Heinesen for Nordisk Film Production.
Kim Fupz Aakeson wrote the screenplay, Erik Zappon was director of
photography, and the score was composed by Nikolaj Steen.
The European Film Academy Awards nominations will be announced 11
November and the Awards ceremony will take place 11 December in
Barcelona.
