"Reconstruction" competes for an Oscar nomination

Press release25.09.2003
"Reconstruction",
directed by Christoffer Boe and produced by Nordisk Film, is now in the
running for an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film
following the decision by representatives from the Danish film
industry.
The film has received an
enthusiastic reception abroad: At Cannes this spring it won the
Caméra d'Or award for the best debut feature, and the Youth Jury Award at
the International Critics' Week. In August the film was presented with the
Amanda award for Nordic Debut of the Year at Haugesund, and on 18
September FIPRESCI presented their Grand Prix for New Director of the Year
to Christoffer Boe at San Sebastian Film Festival.
On announcing the winner
FIPRESCI quoted Grégory Valens* (film critic from Positif and a member of
the selection committee at Semaine de la Critique): "Let's not be afraid
of using superlative terms: Christoffer Boe is the most promising
revelation of Scandinavian cinema since Lars Von Trier. His debut feature
film, awarded with the Caméra d'Or in Cannes, offers a variation on the
theme of the love encounter. It is magnified by a narration deliciously
elaborate, made of temporal and geographical movements, of simulacra and
surprises, and by a most ambitious filmic form, using the mixture of 35 mm
and digital images to compose a personal world which appears alternatively
glacial and warmhearted, realistic and fantasmagoric, timeless and very
modern".
The film has recently
been screened in the USA at the Telluride Film Festival. Writing about the
festival in Variety, Todd McCarthy included "Reconstruction" among what he
termed "hits at the fest", while Elvis Mitchell of the New York Times
described it as a "deeply satisfying film". Its theatrical release in the
US is scheduled for the spring of 2004.
"Reconstruction" is the
work of Hr. Boe & Co. a group of filmmakers consisting of Christopher
Boe, director, Tine Grew Pfeiffer, producer, Manuel Alberto Claro,
director of photography, and Morten Green, sound designer. It is the
second film produced within Nordisk Film's Director's Cut concept that
adheres to a short production period, low budget (1 - 1.2m Euro) and a
closely-knit production team. Åke Sandgren and Lars Kjeldgaard are the
producers of Director's Cut.
