Plaudits Continue for Applause

AWARDS Martin Pieter Zandvliet's feature film debut "Applause" sweeps up yet another top award, this time the Maverick Spirit Award at Cinequest festival in San Jose, California this week.

"Applause" is recipient of a string of plaudits from prestigious festivals such as The Hamptons, Karlovy Vary and Mumbai.

In her Variety review, Alissa Simon wrote: "Debuting feature helmer Martin Pieter Zandvliet's in-your-face, Dogma-style cocktail extracts the essence of Cassavetes' "A Woman Under the Influence" and "Opening Night," adds Martha's monologues from a staged production of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and spikes the whole concoction with scathing wit.
