CPH PIX

Copenhagen Film Festivals is an umbrella organisation representing Denmark's three largest film festivals: the feature film festival CPH PIX, the documentary film festival CPH:DOX, and the children and youth film festival BUSTER.

While CPH:DOX and BUSTER have existed for several years, CPH PIX is the newest member of the festival family, merging Copenhagen's long-running film festivals NatFilm and Copenhagen International Film Festival into one. First edition was in 2009.

Managing director of Copenhagen Film Festivals is Jørgen Ramskov. Directors for the three festivals are Jacob Neiiendam (CPH PIX), Tine Fischer (CPH:DOX), and Füsun Eriksen (BUSTER).

The films are all feature film debuts, among them one Danish candidate, Kaspar Munk's "Hold Me Tight" ("Hold om mig"). Munk has already manifested a talent for strong and sensitive stories about children and youths in a number of short films.

Films on the fringe

Kaspar Munk's film has an official Danish release later this year in September. The main concept of the festival, though, is to invite films that are unlikely to have a regular cinema release in Denmark. Cutting edge or mainstream, the programme is dedicated to giving the audience a novel opportunity to experience films that won't easily find their way to cinemas or TV screens.

Highlights include series on Mexico, Eastern Europe, Asia, the Middle East and American independents, thematic series such as God is in the House, Anxious Animation and World Wide Weirdness, tributes to filmmakers Serge Gainsbourg, Asia Argento, Brillante Mendoza and Thomas Arslan, and live events with Diamanda Galás, Autechre and many more.

The award ceremony is held Saturday, 24 April.
