In 2017, the Danish Film Institute and the Canada Media Fund agreed to establish an incentive for the co-development of digital media projects between Canadian and Danish producers. The programme is designed to promote the development of new narrative formats and to encourage collaboration and exchange of knowhow between the two countries.
As the programme was launched in 2017, the Danish Film Institute and the Canada Media Fund organised a number of activities during the CPH:DOX and RIDM festivals, in Copenhagen and Montreal, respectively. The purpose was to cultivate collaborations between Canadian and Danish producers in the area of digital content.
Four Canadian-Danish media projects have been supported in the first year of the development programme. The projects range widely in both format and content and include VR, games, live animation and an interactive children's universe.
The Danish Film Institute and the Canada Media Fund have now extended the development agreement for another year, with the next deadline for application by the end of 2018.
About the co-development programme
The Canada-Denmark Co-development Incentive for Digital Media Projects supports the development of digital content between Canadian and Danish producers that is innovative, explores new ways of storytelling, experiments with new formats and platforms and seeks to find new ways to engage with the audience.
The aim is also to create collaborations between producers from Canada and Denmark so they can share their experiences about creating innovative media projects.
The budget is set at CAD $300,000 (approximately DKK 1.5m). Each project can be supported with up to CAD $70,000 (approximately DKK 350,000).
To apply, the project must have both a Canadian and a Danish producer. The application deadline is on 12 December 2018.
