The Danish Film Academy, the Danish equivalent of the Oscar Film Academy, has revealed the nominations for this year's edition of the Danish Robert Awards held on 26 January.
The hostage drama 'Daniel' by Niels Arden Oplev and Anders W. Berthelsen leads the pack with a total of 14 nominations. The film is based on the true story of photographer Daniel Rye who was captured by ISIS in 2013 in Syria and held hostage for 398 days along with the American journalist James Foley.
Sundance-winner 'Queen of Hearts', about a successful lawyer who risks everything when she engages in a relationship with her stepson, received 13 nominations. Also receiving 13 nominations is Michael Noer's period drama 'Before the Frost', award-winner at Tokyo Film Festival and selected for Toronto.
All three films are nominated in the main category for Best Danish Feature along with Frelle Petersen's 'Uncle', winner of the main prize at Tokyo Film Festival, and Ulaa Salim's 'Sons of Denmark', which was selected for both Rotterdam and Göteborg Film Festival. All five films are competing in the category for Best Direction as well.
Other nominees include Marie Grahtø's debut 'Psychosia', which premiered at Venice Film Festival, Laurits Flensted-Jensen's 'Neon Heart', which debuted at San Sebastián, and Toronto-selected 'Resin' by Daniel Borgman.
The category for Best Documentary includes Mads Brügger's Sundance winner 'Cold Case Hammarskjöld' and Feras Fayyad's Oscar-shortlisted 'The Cave', winner of the audience award at Toronto.
In the categories for TV series, 'Deliver Us' from national broadcaster DR scored seven nominations and the third season of 'Follow the Money', also from DR, received five nominations. 'Face to Face' from Viaplay received four nominations.
