Det parallelle lig
Hans-Erik Philip, Søren Melson, 1982
Murder, murder, who's got the body? Or bodies actually. A businessman has an affair with his step-daughter, then kills her and stashes the body in a crematorium coffin about to be shoved into the furnace. But the coffin is salvaged by a crematorium workman who sells empty coffins on the sly to an undertaker.
Pas på ryggen, professor!
Jens Okking, 1977
Pelle Erobreren
Bille August, 1987
Part one of great Danish proletarian writer Martin Andersen Nexø's "Pelle the Conqueror" turned into Golden Palms winner in Cannes and Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Film in Hollywood by Bille August. This 19th century drama tells how a loving relationship sustains a peasant father (Max von Sydow) and young son who comes as emigrants from poverty-stricken Sweden to an unhospitable, often cruel Denmark.
Pengene eller livet
Henning Carlsen, 1982
Claus Worm, an affluent architect finds his private life crumbling, his business on a downward curve and, finally, his health failing. Worm also finds himself coerced into working for dirty money in a deal that may involve murder. Is it all true or is it paranoia? It is writer-director Henning Carlsen's conceit that audiences be left to fully share the protagonist's deadly doubts.
Per
Hans Kristensen, 1975
Per, the protagonist small-time hustler of Hans Kristensen's 'Flugten' (1973), turns up again in more tragi-comic misadventures. Hired to commit arson as part of a big-time insurance scam, he fumbles and accidentally shoots a watchman. Shipped off to Sweden to hide in a converted farm house, he gets romantically involved with his boss's beautiful wife.
Perfect World
Tom Elling, 1990
A take it or leave it auteur-experimental fiction exercise: two women are monitoring their dreams, dreams that may of course also be stark naked reality, at least to the dreamers, as they come and they go like bubbles, rising, floating, bursting. A man appears out of nowhere. Poet Peter Laugesen co-wrote the script with Tom Elling, who was Lars von Trier's director of photography on "The Element of Crime".
Peter von Scholten
Palle Kjærulff-Schmidt, 1987
Historical epic based on early strife and triumph in the life of Peter von Scholten, a 19th century far-sighted, racially enlightened and privately high-living governor of the (then) Danish Virgin Islands. After many disputes with authorities in Copenhagen and with local officials and plantation owners, von Scholten swuelched a looming black uprising by arbitrarily abolishing slavery in 1848.
