In 2010, Danish director Mads Brügger received an email. It was a man, who had seen a documentary Mads made about North Korea and asked if he would be interested in making a new film. This one should be about this man - ‘The Mole’ - and his quest to become an undercover member of his local North Korean ‘friendship’ association in Denmark. The Mole rises through the ranks of the organisation, and wins the trust of the president of the KFA, Alejandro Cao de Benos, who asks him to help source investors interested in business deals with North Korea. And that’s where Mr. James gets into the picture...
