Inside an old farmhouse, a woman prepares an offering: biscuits and apple slices on a plate. It is custom to appease the house spirit (nisse) with offerings of food, for good fortune. The woman waits for a while, hoping perhaps to catch a glimpse of the illusive spirit, but with no luck. During the night, as ghosts move through the old creaking house and flickering lights from a dying fire stir the shadows, the Nisse slips into the woman's dream. At the break of dawn however he melts away once again, but something has changed; winter has finally relinquished its grip on the world.
