Pasha is an ordinary man and a teacher in a small Russian town. Known as the school’s funny, creative, and unconventional adult, he is loved by his students. His office is a safe haven where students can come and be themselves. However, Pasha’s daily life changes drastically when the school is mandated to introduce propaganda into the curriculum in the wake of Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
Instead of supporting students in becoming independent adults, he is now forced to spend his time filming and documenting students as they recite meaningless texts—or when teachers read incomprehensible slogans to their classes. In protest—and in secret—Pasha begins to film how the propaganda and war impact the school and the town he lives in.
The thousands of recordings reveal the transformation of Russian society and culminate in heartbreaking moments as former students are sent to the front—some of them never to return.
Through Pasha’s personal story, the audience gains a rare and intimate insight into Putin's Russia. The film is a reminder that courage can take many forms when all seems lost.
