Garden of Allah

Svend Aage Lorentz, Denmark, 1960

27 min.TV series

The first part of a four part series for television about the countries in the Arabian Gulf. Allahs Have (Garden of Allah) features on how traditional lifestyles are giving way to new and modern ways of life. The change of lifestyle has not yet made women more visible in public spheres. Likewise it is also still possible to live a simple life along the fresh water of the Gulf abundant with fish. In the desert beduins are still travelling in the traditional way, but for how long? While society in general is changing to meet the future Danish archaeologists are chasing the past. In Bahrein the head of the Danish-Bahrein-Archaeological-Expedition is digging in the desert. Peter Vilhelm Glob is looking for the Garden of Eden, surrounded by the lovely gardens owned by the Sheikh families.
