Hans Christian Andersen at the Photographer's

Jørgen Roos, Denmark, 1975

13 min.DK/DocumentaryPortrait films

A lively portrait of the poet, based on abt. 160 different photographs, most of them unknown to the public. The photos were taken from his 45th year until his death, and give an opportunity of studying his attitudes and changing facial expressions. The pictures clearly show that he himself directed many of the poses and wanted not only the poetic and inspired look to become known, but also the humorous and everyday expression. Was it intended that many of the pictures register loneliness and suffering ?
