On the shortest night of the year, the little mermaid meets with the subterranean people at the home of the leprechaun. As the mermaid swims in the waning light of the sunset, she is surprised by unknown sounds and changing landscapes. The old route north, which she has taken for centuries, has disappeared and she is lost. This is how the thoughts of the old minister are travelling on his last day in power, as he packs his belongings and leaves the office where he has been working for decades. The minister considers the past and the future. His thoughts lead him to the conclusion that he wants to help the last of the subterraneans - if he can. What happens to the little mermaid - will she find the leprechaun - will she return to her rock at the Copenhagen harbour - that¿s what this fillm is all about...
