This film was made to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the first 'folk highschool' in Denmark. Each highschool has its own character. Broadly speaking they are designed to give an extra training, not so much academic ad civic, to young people at about the age of eighteen. Many youngsters, who leave school at the age of fourteen, return to the 'folk highschools' for a six months' course. The film aims to give a broad picture of the work of the 'folk highschools', and deals with everyday life, both in winter and summer. We see something of the general system of lectures, study circles, discussion groups, sport, needlework classes, and gain an impression of the great importance of these popular schools to all circles of the Danish community.
