During World War 2 and the German occupation of Denmark, a recently divorced woman returns to her native provincial town with her small son. She wants to start life all over. She seeks new horizons. She disdains traditional boundaries and, considering the predictable prejudices of the place, day and age, makes the mistake of falling in love with a German officer. She must suffer the consequences.
