The End of Days

Hans and Esther lives a quiet and retired life. Married for almost 50 years, their golden wedding anniversary is approaching, in their small townhouse in Ribe, and they have been planning the party for a long time. Hans and Esther wants the day to be something special; not only because the day, that one of them has to go to a retirement home is approaching, but because the end of days is near. In just a short amount of years, the dark powers will deliver the final blow to humanity. Life as we know it; with privet hedges, family-get-togethers, pretzels from the baker, card games and trips to the local shop; will be a distant memory only held, by a few survivors.
I “End of Days” Hans and Esther fights against the clock. De desperately try to enlighten the rest of the Danish population, about the things that are about to happen, so that they also can prepare.
But no one wants to listen. They have made over 2000 websites and more than 300 YouTube videos, but to no avail.
Esther and Hans is well aware of what is about to happen. And despite their declining health – Esther suffers from polio and Hans fights daily cramps, as an after effect from a brain haemorrhage – They find the energy to try a last attempt, to safe their fellow humans. De therefor decides to launch a lecture tour, to get people’s attention.
Even though they are losing more and more friends, and weird rumours and evil slander is spread by the resident’s association, Hans and Esther rises to the cause and get vitalised by the impending doomsday. They get a new energy from fighting for the opportunity of spreading information about the catastrophe. For a short time, Esther and Hans forgets the feeling of their time slowly running out. They make informative posters, packs their survival kits and discusses how, the table planning for the wedding, are going to make sense.
They postpone the painful realisation that Esther’s health is fast declining. If Armageddon is out runs Esther’s illness, is not jet known, but we do know that it would destroy Hans, if Esther ever got to the point of illness, so that he could not care for her at home anymore. “ I am much more comfortable when I am ill, then when Esther is ill”, he proclaims.
The End of Days is a movie based on eternal and unconditional love, at the end the world.
