Ditte and Louise are two middle-aged actresses who realize that the only thing the industry has left to offer them is roles like mothers or as elderly prostitutes. That is why Ditte makes a radical decision: She dresses up like a man. Against all odds, Ditte is successful as Ditlev. She lands a lead role in a film and gets tons of attention. And she becomes best friends with movie star Anders W. Berthelsen. But at the same time, she fails her best friend Louise and their shared dream of owning a theatre company. In impotence and frustration, Louise throws herself into a headless affair with David, a Doctor. But she is full of inner demons and her problems escalate. Eventually, Ditte and Louise are at risk of losing it all.
