The film tells about Eigil Knuth (1903-96) from his early childhood untill the foundation of the station at Cap Moltke in the Eastern Peary Land in 1972. We follow him on his expedition to the Northerners' ruins in Western Greenland in 1932 , across the ice cap in 1936, as a sculptor and as leader of the Gamma expedition 1938-39. And finally we are with him on the great Peary Land expedition in 1947-50, where his work as an archaeologist culminated.
