In the film five men meet at an exquisite dinner to discuss the paintings of the Golden Age in Denmark. Jens Jørgen Thorsen talks about N.A. Abildgaard, Per Kirkeby about Christen Købke, Vagn Lundbye about J.T. Lundbye, Michael Kvium about Dankvart Dreyer and Erik Fischer about C.W. Eckersberg. The film is a living document which delivers food for thought. Many intelligent thoughts are expressed on the paintings of the Golden Age, and at the same time we get a portrait of five now living persons' very different views and artistic practice.
