Palle and Ingrid have a perfectly normal married life except for one thing: Palle hears weird sounds coming from the basement. Despite his wifes efforts to make him forget about it, he goes one day to investigate the basement and discovers a terrible secret. Down there he sees a horrible world of pain and slavery filled with huge, noisy machinery. When he tells Ingrid about it, she gives him an ultimatum: If he continues his mad ranting, she will leave him. Now Palle must choose between love or thruth.
