Ishavets kæmpe

Adam Schmedes, Denmark, 2013

60 min.DK/DocumentaryChildren's films, Nature films

A whale is born in Greenland at the beginning of the of the 1800s. In another time, another place and in another ocean. The film runs one hour and in that time we get a glimpse of our own history, in the industrial development and global warming, everything seen from the whale's perspective. In the unique underwater footage as well as animated and CGI-generated sequences, we follow the whale's life from birth to death, in search of food and food places in a rapidly changing world formed by the presence of humans. We realize how history has crossed the path of the whale and with the Greenlandic whale as a focus point, we are not just made to feel what it means to be a whale, but also a genuine feel for the sense of infinite time, the whale is able to pass onto us.
