Yiddish Music

Marian Hirschorn, Denmark, 1987

45 min.DK/Documentary

Up to the 2nd World War Eastern European Jews lived in small towns, 'Stehtl's', and spoke almost exclusively Yiddisch - a kind of German mixed with Hebrew and local dialect. Today these towns no longer exist and with the older generation Yiddisch is disappearing as a living language. The environment of those days is described through music and songs.
