The Road

In 2008 the Chinese government issues a $586 billion plan to minimize the consequences of the global financial crisis. In the Hunan-province section 14 of a massive highway system will be built by a local construction company. With unique and unprecedented access director Zhang Zambo has filmed the process over a four year period.
Mr. Meng is one of the main characters in the film. He is vice-precident in the company and problem solver. And there are many problems to solve. Local villagers and peasants are forced to move due to land acquisition and workers experience lack of safety under very difficult working conditions. The problems increase when local authorities hire gangsters to beat up the workers.
