The film touches on tendencies characteristic of our time through the portrayal of the young and ambitious violinist Charlie Siem. As a violinist, he is constantly on tour. At the same time, he works as a model for several of the world's leading fashion houses. This combination has made magazines label him a "rock star" violinist, and he has young audiences listening to his interpretations of Brahms and Beethoven in concert halls around the world. On the face of it, this sounds like the perfect life. But behind his photogenic facade Charlie struggles to create a life that meets both his own and the world's ideas of success and happiness.
The film premiered at CPH:DOX. Eva Mulvad won IDFA's Silver Wolf Award and the World Cinema Jury Prize at Sundance for Enemies of Happiness (2006). The Good Life (2010) was selected for competition at IDFA, the Toronto Hot Docs and Tribeca Film Festival and was awarded in Karlovy Vary.
