The almost true story of the great Swedish jazz singer Monica Zetterlund. Monica is a single mother and lives with her parents in the countryside in Sweden. Her father is an old and disappointed trumpet player, who does not believe in Monica's talent. She struggles, however, still free of the family shackles and is even invited to the U.S. to sing, but returns home disappointed, when she arrives in a segregated New York and refuses to replace the black members of her band. Her life and career comes to a halt several times. Mostly because she has a high consumption of both men and alcohol. And even though her talent is obvious and she is widely recognized, it will never be enough for Monica Z.
