A grammophone record with Chopin's waltz in c minor is the item that ties together eight different destinies in this film made in Denmark during the second world war. A young man buys the record for a friend's wife with whom he has an affair. The record is sold to a music teacher. The teacher's maid brings it for a date with a captain, but forgets it in a car. The driver of the car is the illegitimate son of a supreme court judge. Via an emotionally unstable woman, the record ends up in a pharmacy. The pharmacist's neighbor steals the record and gives it to a woman, who passes it on to her maid. The record ends up with an angry waiter in a bar.
