Aviation received much attention at the time. Charles Robert Edvard Svendsen (1884-1938) was a trained mechanic. He was the first to acquire a license to fly in Denmark. On 17 July 1910 he was the first to cross Øresund, the strait between Denmark and Sweden by airplane.
