In 1898 the production of diesel engines was commenced at Burmeister & Wain in Copenhagen. In 1912 the first diesel motor ship, ‘Selandia’, was launched. The engineering endeavor received much acclaim both domestically and abroad. ‘Selandia’ sank by the Japanese coast in 1941.
