Lars Johansen: "In 1994, I made the film entitled Traveller's Tale. I traveled from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea: a few years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, I wanted to see central Europe. After the film was finished there was one face that scorched itself into my mind: Simona Maicanescu, an actress at the National Theater in Bucharest. I simply had to see her again. Simona, which was shot over the course of a year, in France and Rumania, is a portrait of her, seen through the lens of my fascination."
