Graduated in 1995 as director from the National Polish Film School in Lodz. MA in film production from the Northern School of Film & TV at Leeds University, UK (1996).
As assistant director, Windfeld worked on the television series "The Spider" (1999), "Unit 1" (2000-03) and "The Eagle" (2004-06). Windfeld directed short films and documentaries, among these awardwinner at Chicago's International Children's Film Festival, "Little Man" (2002).
Windfeld's directorial breakthrough came with the Swedish television series "The Crown Princess" (2006), nominated for an Emmy, followed by the miniseries "The Regicide" (2008) and "The Queen Sacrifice" (2010-2011), all three based on Hanne-Vibeke Holst's best-selling novels. Windfeld then returned to Denmark where she directed episodes of "The Killing" (2012), "Rita" (2013) and "The Bridge" (2013).
Windfeld directed two feature films, the Danish-produced "The Escape" (2009) with Iben Hjejle as a Danish journalist taken hostage by a group of terrorists in Afghanistan, and "Hamilton: In the Interest of the Nation" (2012), a Swedish spy thriller starring Mikael Persbrandt.
Kathrine Windfeld's latest achievement was, as conceptual director, the television series "The Team" (2015), starring Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen.
