Mette Carla Albrechtsen, born in 1980, is known for her conceptual approach to filmmaking. With an anthropological perspective, she often tackles taboo subjects, offering a unique insight into the human experience. Her intuitive approach to casting—working with both actors and non-actors—enables original interpretations.
Mette Carla works across genres and has directed the short films Vanilla and Territory, both of which have been screened at international festivals, including Reykjavik IFF and OFF. In 2019, she won several awards for her short film Voiceless Women, including a Silver Lion at Cannes Lions IFF of Creativity, as well as a D&AD Impact Pencil, a Clio Award, and two Young Director Awards.
Mette Carla began her career as an Art Director before enrolling at the National Film School of Denmark, where she graduated as a documentary filmmaker. Her first feature film, Venus, Let’s Talk About Sex, co-directed with Lea Glob, was selected for the First Appearance program at IDFA and later nominated for both the Robert and Bodil awards, earning recognition at international film festivals.
En Plads i Solen premiered at CPH:DOX in the Nordic Dox competition.
