Born 1961, Denmark. After film studies at Copenhagen University, Oplev graduated in direction at the National Film School of Denmark in 1989.
His feature film debut, 'Portland' (1996), was selected for the Berlinale, and 'We Shall Overcome' (2006) took home the Crystal Bear at the Berlinale. 'Worlds Apart' (2008) was also selected for Berlin.
Oplev has contributed to several popular Danish TV series such as 'Taxi' (1997-99), 'Unit 1' (2000-03) and 'The Eagle' (2004-06).
'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' (2009), based on novelist Stieg Larsson's popular thriller trilogy, is Oplev's fifth feature film, a worldwide box office success. Since then, Oplev has directed a string of films and series in the US.
His first Danish-produced films after working in Hollywood for several years include 'Daniel' (2019) and 'Rose' (2022).
